Home-Start Wokingham District is a local charity supporting vulnerable young families with at least one child under five who are struggling to cope.  Our trained volunteers have traditionally visited families each week in their own homes to give them emotional and practical help, tailored to their specific needs.

Unfortunately, during lockdown we were forced to stop all home visiting. We therefore had to stop taking referrals even though many families needed our support more than ever.

After taking some time to adapt our ways of working and give our volunteers the extra training they need, we are excited to announce that on 1st July, we are relaunching our new remote family support service.  We are now taking new referrals of local families who are going through tough times and need our help.

So what’s new? Well, our home-visiting service has now become a remote family support service.  This means that we will be supporting families regularly via digital means, including audio and video calls, text messaging and socially distanced contact where possible. Our new remote service is mainly restricted to emotional support, although some practical support may be possible, such as the collection or delivery of essential items and doorstep chats.

If you want to refer a family to us, or you wish to refer yourself, please contact us on 0118 9888025 or [email protected].
