A project to revamp the water network and protect future tap water supplies has hit a major milestone.
South East Water has just 10 metres of water main left to install as part of its work in Nine Mile Ride, Finchampstead.
In order to complete this final section of pipe laying, the water company needs to close Park Lane at its junction with Nine Mile Ride so it can safely install the remaining pipe.
Water workers will then connect the new pipe to the existing network, allowing South East Water to continue to provide a steady supply of tap water as the community grows.
Jeremy Dufour, Project Manager, said: “Despite the pressures of COVID-19 we have made significant progress with our vital £1.4 million project to protect tap water supplies in Finchampstead.
“We started working last summer and have laid more than 3.4 kilometres of pipe in Finchampstead Road, Gorse Ride South, Billing Avenue and Nine Mile Ride.
“I am pleased that we are working ahead of our planned schedule and we will soon be in a position to be able to start completing the project.”
Park Lane will be closed at the junction of Nine Mile Ride between Monday 18th May and Friday 22nd May.
There will be no access to Nine Mile Ride from Park Lane, meaning motorists and residents will need to follow the clearly-signed diversion route which has been agreed by the local Highways department.
Jeremy continued: “I am really sorry for any disruption this final road closure may cause but I hope residents understand that this is a significant step towards completing the project ahead of schedule.”
Once the remainder of the pipe is installed, the company will continue connecting customer properties to the new water main and other works to join the new pipe to the existing asset.
The project forms part of South East Water’s £424m investment into its water network between 2015 and 2020.
