Finchampstead is fortunate to have over 21 miles of footpaths within the Parish.  These are maintained by Wokingham Borough Council but the Parish Council employs a part time Footpath Warden to ensure that the paths are maintained to an even better standard.

We have produced some guidance on where you can walk and cycle – and why.  Please see below.

Information and maps

A map of the Finchampstead footpaths, bridleways and other paths can be downloaded here.  The Parish Council Street Map also includes footpaths, please contact the Parish Office for a copy.

The document here gives descriptions of the locations of each of the numbered public rights of way in the Parish.

Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps 159 and 160 cover the local area and are available from most good bookshops.

Local walking routes and events

We have started producing a series of local circular walks, you can see and download details of them here:

The Blackwater Valley path is perfect for an afternoon stroll or a longer walk. Following the River Blackwater the 10km path includes surfaced sections suitable for bicycles, wheelchairs and buggies. Circular routes are available. The annual ‘Walk the Path’ event, walking from Sandhurst to Swallowfield, is held each April. Visit www.bvct.org.uk for more information.

Wokingham and District Health Walks offer the opportunity to join a walk each day of the week in the Wokingham area. In Finchampstead, walks take place twice a week and range from a short stroll to a longer more challenging walk. Further information and the current programme can be found here
