Welcome to the Finchampstead Emergency Response webpage. Here you can find information about how Finchampstead Parish Council is planning for a local emergency, and how you could help.

Planning for a Local Emergency – are you able to assist?

The storms of winter 2013/14 in various parts of the country, such as Somerset Levels and Wraysbury, overwhelmed many local emergency services. Whilst Finchampstead has never had a devastating weather-related emergency, that winter showed that no place is safe from some emergency or other.

To ensure that Finchampstead avoids the issues that caught out so many places, Finchampstead Parish Council (FPC) wants to ensure Finchampstead is prepared for whatever once-in-a-lifetime emergency occurs. Accordingly we are developing a series of activities that, whilst linked to Wokingham Borough Council and Berkshire Emergency Response teams, will focus on Finchampstead and its residents. These activities are collectively known as Finchampstead Emergency Response (FER).

You can view our Emergency Plan here.

FER focuses on three areas

  • Self help – planning and preparation. Click here for more information.
You may find this booklet useful – please note that some of the telephone numbers listed may have changed so we suggest you check these.
  • Provision of refuges – places where people who have been made temporarily homeless will be given sanctuary. These refuges will provide up to 72 hours respite whilst, if necessary, more permanent accommodation is found. Information on potential refuges can be found here.
  • Developing a register of ‘Early Responders’ – people who have the capability and equipment and who could make themselves available in an emergency. You can find out more here.
