The Wokingham Volunteer Centre are desperately looking for more volunteer drivers for their Wokingham Transport Scheme, which supports elderly and vulnerable residents of Wokingham and the surrounding area, including Finchampstead.

All you need is your own car and some time. There is no cost to you as all your expenses will be reimbursed. They are looking for drivers who can provide transport for older people to attend vital medical appointments such as hospitals, local doctors, dentists, opticians and physiotherapists. Drivers who can help with one off social trips, such as shopping and visiting friends/family in hospital/care homes etc., and more regular social trips, such lunch clubs or activities which may involve dropping off and picking up later rather than waiting. Time commitment can be very flexible.

You must have a full driving licence and your own car. No specialist car insurance is needed. Unfortunately, they cannot take on any new volunteers aged under 21 or 75 and above. Commitment is ongoing, and ideally a minimum of one day is needed (or a couple of mornings or afternoons) per week. The vast majority of drives are weekdays and daytimes, so availability would need to align with this.

If you live in Wokingham, Finchampstead, Winnersh or Barkham and you would like to help, please contact Helena Badger, Volunteer Services Manager via email [email protected] or call 0118 977 0749 to discuss.
